Old Bridge, Sárospatak
The crumbling bridge of the narrow gauge train has been out of use for decades. (on Google Maps)
There was a power cut on Friday, so i went out to get some fresh air. The bridge is being slowly taken away, bit by bit. Crossing is prohibited, and dangerous. But it is still a nice chill out, meditative place to be.
A piece of railway history too; at 138 m long and 2.7 m wide this iron rail bridge (inaugurated 1913) over the River Bodrog on the edge of the village of Bodroghalász was the longest narrow gauge railway and also structure in the whole of Europe. The perfect place to feel that Sárospatak was built at the foot of the hills.
On the bridge looking towards the north you can see the Zemplén Hills. If you go south from here, crossing the embankment the view of the hills would soon be covered by a strip of forest. Once on the other side, a biggish bend of the road which runs along the embankment.
Going left would take you to Sárospatak, turning right leads to the picturesque village of Sárazsadány.
